nicolay city lights 2 phonte mxpPhonte of The Foreign Exchange Music explains why you should go buy band mate Nicolay’s newest album, but not from iTunes. The album dropped today digitally and next week in actual stores, but iTunes fucked things up for Nicolay. Watch the video and you will be pretty pissed off at Apple/iTunes. These guys can’t catch a break, Phonte had his troubles with record labels as Little Brother and now they have to go through this stuff with iTunes. Provided below is the link to buy the album from Amazon, where Phonte suggests you should buy the album, which is already in the Top 25 Albums on Amazon in its first day of release.

Phonte is right at home in North Carolina, but Nicolay came all the way from the Netherlands for their live perforamance in Charolette. The live show was hosted my MySpace Music and they duo performed songs off of both of their albums, Connected and Leave it All Behind. Phonte was already one of my favorite mc’s and after this past week he has become one of my favorite artists after I found out he could sing. The Foreign Exchange arguably makes some of the best music with their connection of hip hop, R&b, and jazz. I downloaded their two albums earlier this week and haven’t been able to stop playing them since then.

How I did not know about The Foreign Exchange has me stumped right now. Phonte was already one of my favorite rappers ever being that I love Little Brother, but I did not know he could sing. I  just found out about The Foreign Exchange, but already downloaded all of their albums last night. I wasn’t sure what to expect with Phonte without 9th Wonder and Rapper Big Pooh, but this is just as good if not better than Little Brother. The genre of music is different but there has not been a song that I did not like from The Foreign Exchange’s albums yet. For those that don’t know, TFE consists of Phonte[from LB] and Dutch producer Nicolay. The pair first made contact over message boards on Okayplayer and began recording and sending music back and forth. Soon after, Phonte and Nicolay formed The Foreign Exchange without having ever met each other in person, hence the name Foreign Exchange.
