This was easily one of my favorite tracks from 2009. I mean it doesn’t get much better than Mos and Kweli on a Dilla beat. The video itself is pretty simple, but it goes nicely with the single off of the Grammy nominated album. I really hope  Ecstatic wins Best Hip Hop Album, but I’m not sure if he will win. This will not be the last we hear from Talib Kweli and Mos Def, as there is supposed to be another Black Star album in the works. I’m not expecting it to drop soon, but maybe at the end of the year. Let’s hope.

This might be the one of the best Christmas Eves ever. I did not think we would get this song so quickly, but here it is after Just Blaze and Jay Electronica just played it on the radio on Tuesday.

I am loving these Just Blaze appearances on Shade 45’s Toca’s Tuesdays. Every time he shows up, he drops heat. Last time it was Exhibit C and a bunch of Saigon tracks, tonight he dropped that Reflection Eternal track and now this. I love how Just Blaze is working with all of these artists, I truly believe he is bringing back hip-hop.

It looks like anything that Jay Electronica and J. Cole are on will be fire. This song is the definition of great hip-hop. I mean four of the best rappers, from newcomers to respected artist, this song has it all on top of a dope beat. What more can you ask for?

Who knew Mos Def could produce? This track is smooth and I guess you can consider this the first track from Center Edge Territory since it has Mos Def and Curren$y on it. It’s quite short too so maybe Jay Electronica will be getting on the track.

Another track from the Blakroc project from The Black Keys and Dame Dash. They have artists like Raekwon, RZA, Q-Tip, Jim Jones, and Mos Def on the project that will be releasing at the end of this month. Surprisingly Dame Dash has behind some pretty good stuff lately, besides this project he has Mos Def, Curren$y, and Jay Electronica making an album together. At least he’s not going after Hov like Beanie.

With maybe the greatest news in hip-hop in a while, Jay Electronica, Mos Def, and Curren$y have joined forces to make up the hip-hop group of Center Edge Territory. Surprisingly the one of the guys who can be credited for the group is Dame Dash, as the three met at his new studio DD172. Before anyone calls this just another CRS[kanYe+Lupe+Pharrell], Curren$y says they are already six tracks deep and will be releasing an album next year. I know how hard it is for groups like these to get something done, but I think these guys can do it. I can see Mos Def and Jay Elec working together since Jay Elec opened for Mos Def on his Ecstatic Tour and Mos Def graced Jay with his verse on Exhibit B. Then you add Curren$y into the mix, who has become one of my favorite up and coming rappers. I can only imagine they will be getting Just Blaze on the beats with Jay E in the group, but Mos Def and Curren$y have had excellent production in the past as well. Check the video after the jump of Curren$y talking about the group.

mos def black thought eminem dj premier bet cypher mxp

If you had to name the top 10 freestylers, these three would have to be some where on that list. Then throw in DJ Premier, arguably the best hip-hop producer ever[Top 3 for me] and you get one of the best freestyle videos ever. Surprisingly this Cypher comes from the BET Hip Hop Awards. I did not know BET was capable of coming up with something this good. Enough of the talking though, you need to watch the video. Dante, Black Though, and Em, enough said.

Coming off of his latest album The Ecstatic, Dante has been hitting the live stage over America and stopped in Rhode Island for the Newport Jazz Festival. He performed his Human Nature tribute to Michael Jackson live with an orchestra. Mos Def sings for part of the song, but the majority of it is the instrumental being beautifully played.

At first listen, I thought this was a remix of Casa Bey, but this is a new song from Dante and DJ Honda. The duo are no strangers to each other, as they put together the classic track that Travellin’ Man is. 12 years later, they got back together to put together a new track for DJ Honda’s upcoming album. The album DJ Honda IV should be out sometime soon.
